XC agility meets back trail stability

After more than eighteen months of development, prototyping, and incorporating rider feedback, the Old King has emerged as a responsive, XC race-ready 29" wheeled hardtail.

The Old King's geometry is aimed to excel in fast, technical conditions. Short, 435mm chainstays help the Old King track and turn quickly in technical singletrack, while fast but stable handling up front keep responsiveness to a perfect level for 24 hour races and other longer events. Mixed with the trail smoothing ride quality and durability of titanium, the Old King is perfectly suited to long, aggressive trail rides.

As a clean-sheet design for 2016, the Old King features a thoroughly modern specification. A standard Syntace X-12 thru axle keeps the rear end stiff, while BOOST spacing and heavily sculpted chainstays offer generous tire clearance and clean chainlines. The recently announced and heavily praised T47 threaded bottom bracket shell fits oversized cranks with the ease of maintenance of a threaded bottom bracket. The clean cable routing is reconfigurable with changeable guides to accept a front derailleur or dropper post, no zip ties required.

Construction

The Old King is constructed from the highest quality 3Al-2.5V cold worked stress relieved (CWSR) titanium tubing. The frame’s main tubes are each fully butted in-house by CNC lathe, varying wall thickness for each size of frame. The tubing is then precisely shaped, mitered and welded by some of the top titanium craftsmen in the industry. The Old King also features size-specific tubing, with tubing diameters tailored for each size to ensure appropriate stiffness levels for our largest and smallest sizes.

Titanium is a natural fit for an XC race frame. A well-designed titanium frame strikes the perfect balance of low weight, smooth ride quality, and remarkable durability. 3Al-2.5V titanium offers a strength-to-weight ratio far better than aluminum or steel, which allows us to achieve more frame stiffness with less material. What makes titanium the stuff of framebuilding legend, however, is the material's ability to soak up bumps and vibration. A great titanium frame keeps you feeling fresh in the saddle all ride long.

As with all No. 22 Bicycle Company frames, the Old King has been built to last, and its craftsmanship is backed by our ten year warranty.

Finish Options

In addition to our standard "raw" finish, the Old King is available in one of six anodized colours as a $300 option.
